Thursday, August 14. The Board met at 11 a.m. Present — The Chief Commissioner (in the] chair), Messrs J. Buchanan, T. K. Newton, A. Kennedy, and. H. S. Tiffen. OF CONDITIONS OF DJEFBRJIE^ A ' PAYMENT SETTLEMENTS. i A telegram was read from the Undersecretary for Crown Lands enquiring of the Chief - Commissioner whether the conditions, on. ..which landa are held on deferred payments are enforced with unnecessary strictness. • '■ ■ The Chairman r read his reply, which was to thie effect that the board had dealt very leniently w.ith all holders of land on deferred payments! BUSHMIIXS SETTLEMENT. A letter was read from the Chief Surveyor, forwarding plan of the: Bushmills Small Farm Association block. The board having considered the plan, approved the proposed lines of road. The Chairman stated that he had seen the secretary to the association and had ascertained that six of the original members had withdrawn from it. The board decided' that sections Nos. 1, 2, and 6 — about" 90 acres — should not be open'for'selectiori ; that the 'association should ba allowed to substitute other members in the place of those withdrawn ; that the allotment shall take place on Saturday, the 16th instant, in the Council Chamber at 11 a.m., by ballot, in the same manner as' was ■ adopted by the Victoria Small Farm Association ; and that the first instalment -of: purchase money ahall be.due and paid, on date of selection, future instalments being due every three months from that date. THB.PJ-rKETOI BLOCK. A letter' was read from the Chief Surveyor, forwarding, maps of, and report upon, tha ? Puketoi block. The .board approved the lines o>f road as laid down on the plan, and decided that the Chief Surveyor should be requested to proceed as soon as possible with the clearing of jrpads for the purpose of opening up the land in. question, and to have sections 1 and 2 of .block 9, Tahoraite district, cut up into village allotments— about 50 acres in lots of half an acre and one acre each, and the balance in five and ten acre lots. AHUATURANGA BLOCK. A report was, read from the Chief Surveyor upon the Ahuaturanga block. It was decided that the Chief Surveyor should be requested to proceed with the survey of this land in the manner suggested in his report. LAND AT TT/ATUA. A report was' read from the Chief Surveyor upon land at- Tnatua, being blocks 5, 6, and 10, Takapu survey district..- ;• :.;><.-.. The board poatporfed its decision as to the disposal of the land,, in order to obtain 1 further information a3 to its value. ohmtokdvii/l settlement. 1 "A letter was read from Mr A Levy, secretary to the Ormondville Small Farm Association, stating that . the committee had agreed to the transfer of section 139 from Henry to Stephen McGreevy, and section - 140 from ' Stephen to Arthur McGreevy. The board sanctioned the transfers, and decided' tliat Stephen McGreevy should be considered to have complied with the coriditibns- under * which he occupied section 139. THE MAKAREXU EBSERVE. An application. to purchase block 01, in the Makaretu ..reserve was; received from George Gay. ........ The board granted the application. , TAKAPAXT ' DISTRICT. The board ' decided that the Chief Surveyor-be directed to haye the land in the Takapu district, between the Manawatu river and the railway reserve, comprising about 80 acres; surveyed into two blocks, leaving a small reserve on the northenv'siide'near the railway' bridge.
