NAPIER HARBOR BOARD.

Tuesday, August 12. The board met at 2.30 p.m. Present : — Messrs Smith, Lyndon, Kinross, Common, Ormond and Yautier. In the absence of tho chairman, Mr Vautier was voted to the chair. SOUNDINGS.. Charts of soundings prepared by tho pilot and the clerk of works were laid on tho table. THE WEST QUAY. A report was road from the clerk of works, stating that the road at the West Quay, from the corner of Messrs Murray and Common's store to the second turntable, was very much out of repair, and recommending tliat tenders be J called for the supply of metal for the repair of tho road. On the motion of Mr Smith, seconded by Mr Kinross, it was decided that tenders be called for the supply of metal, as recommended by Mr Saunders. progress or works. A report was read from the clerk of works, stating that the new mooring piles at the breastwork were completed, that the end bays at the eastern pier had been filled with stones, and that Mr M'Kay's contract at the pier head was not quite completed. THE IIIOST POT. A. letter was read from Messrs Wardrop & Co. , calling the attention of the board to the state of the "pot," which of late had become so silted as to make it impossible for the Southern Cross to get in position to take in cattle, and requesting that such means be adopted aa would enable the steamer to fulfil her charter for tho conveyance of cattlo. After a good deal of discussion, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Kinross, seconded by Mr Smith, that "the letter of Messrs Wardrop & Co be referred to tho committee appointed to consider the question of affording increased wharf accommodation, and that an estimate be furnished by the clerk of works of the extension of wharf considered necessary. ■ DISPOSAL OF TIMBER. A letter was read from the clerk of works in reference to some pieces of timber reqnired by Mr M'Kay for his contract at the hospital buildings. The timber consisted of pieces cut off from the mooring piles, ranging from 6 feet to 10 feet in length, in all about 100 running feet, and the clerk of works considered that Is 6d por foot was a fair valuation for the timber. It was decided that Mr M'Kay should have the. timber at Is. 6d per running foot. LEAVE OF ABSENCK. On the motion of the chairman, leave of absence was granted to Mr Robjohns. Tho board then adjourned.
