Colonel Whit more severely blamed Sir F. D. Bell for asking for information which, if made public, would cause still further dissensions on the West Coast among the natives themselves. Sir F. D. 801l withdrew the motion. THE LIBERAL ASSOCIATION MEETING. Sir F. 0. Bell asked Colonel Whitmore why he had denied on the previous day that the Premier was to speak at a public meeting, when, as was seen, he had done so. _ Colonel Whitmore said he had denied it through a misapprehension. TREASURY BILLS. Mr Waterhouse accused the Govern- I ment of breaking the law in making Trea- | sury bills payable in London. Colonel Whitmore said that when getting the returns he would give Mr Waterhouse information which would cause him to alter his views aa to the legality of the matter. DISTRICT LAW SOCIETIES ACT. The District Law Societies Act Amendment Bill was read a first time. IMPREST SUPPLY BILL. The Imprest Supply Bill was passed through all its stages. DEBATE ON THE ADDKESS. Mr Chamberlain spoke strongly against the Government policy, which, he said, had been a long series of broken promises. Captain Fraser was the last speaker. He blamed some parts of the native policy, especially the taking prisoner of Wi Kingi, who had saved the passengers of the Lord Worsley from outrage and death. He counselled the blowing of the whole native office into the air by gunpowder. The address was then passed without a division, and after some formal business the Council adjourned at 4.30.
