An Italian has concluded a contract' with the English Government for 10,000": Eucalyptus, trees. Of the 280 varieties which exist he has chosen about twenty of the first that came : in his wayi^JThepe plants are to be given over to the Govern- ■ ment at Larnaca by March, planted, '.atyd" in a healthy, living, green cbncUtion,'^ The cunning Italian has takan any variety *" that offered, as only " Eucalyptus "; was ' mentioned in the contract. The Italian pockets the money, the English Government loses 90,000 f., and has been cheated into the bargain.
