WASTE LANDS BOARD.

Thursday, June 5. The Board met at 11 a.m. Present — The Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Lieut. - Colonel Lambert, Messrs Newton, Tiffen, Kennedy, and Buchanan. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COBRESFONDENCE. The following correspondence -was read : — From Mr A. Poyzer, applying for permission to occupy the Government reserves shown on a plan accompanying the application. The board decided that the land should not be dealt with at present. From the Chief Surveyor, respecting an application made about twelve months ago by Messrs Rhode 3 and Co.

for a piece of land in the Patoka district, on the top of a precipice* The Chief Surveyor asked for instructions as to whether tne boundary should extend beyond the precipice, jJoirititig oUt that if restricted to the edge of the precipice, as mentioned in the application, there would not be the quantity of land applied for. The Chairman explained that the tracing attached to the application did not correspond with the wording of the application, in consequence of the precipice being shown much further to the westward than it proved to be on survey. He also stated that he had seen Mr Scale, who was acting for Messrs Rhodes and Co., and explained to him that any deficiency in the area could not be selected elsewhere, and Mr Scale still wished that the boundary should not extend beyond the precipice. The board decided that the land should be surveyed so that the boundary should be as close to the edge of the precipice as possible. THE QUARANTINE RESERVE. A report was read from the Chief Surveyor respecting the quarantine station at Tautane. The board decided that with the view of recommending the Governor to withdraw from reservation the portion of land proclaimed on the 31st October, 1871, which is not required as a quarantine ground for stock, that the Inspector of Sheep be requested to state the boun* daries of the land requisite for quarantine purposes. THE LATE LAND SALB. The Chairman stated that only a small quantity of the land offered at auction on the 30th of May had been sold. The board decided to recommend the Governor to proolaim as open to free selection the lands that were not disposed, of at auction. The board then adjourned.
