SATURDAY'S PROCEEDINGS.
(liV TKLEGUAJMI.)
The perjury caso against Mr Kinross accupied the R.M. Court all day. The examination of tho native witnesses was very slow, all they said having to be taken down in both Maori and English. Very little progress was therefore made, and nothing very important was elicited.
The principal witness was Paramena One One, who stated that Mr Kinross now claimed certain lands of his known as Raukawa in payment for spirits supplied to -witness. The land had been mortgaged to Mr Kinross, bub only for four years. Witness had had goods and money from Mr Kinross on various occasions. He had transacted business with Mr Kinross through George Worgan, who acted as interpreter. The goods were of various kinds, and had been debited by Mr Kinross to witness, and laid against witness as interest in the Raukawa estate. Witness always got whatever ho asked for in connection with the Raukawa estate from Mr Kinross's store, whether goods, money, or spirits. He could not say how much spirits he got, but he used to get two cases at a time. The spirits were all charged against the mortgage on the Raukawa estate. Witness always signed a document when he got goods, spirits, or money. Ho did not understand tho contents of those documents. Mr Kinross used to tell him the amounts of the cheques. Witness could not read himself.
The case was then further adjourned to June 10
