THE YEAR'S REVENUE.

-A SEMi-dFl?ici.VJa return of the revenue of theiColdny of the first three-quarters of me. cun-ent financial year is published' in a Wellington newspaper. This return shows that, even under the most favorable ciroumstances, the estimate for 'the yeaipvill not be. realised.' ; That "estimate; wa5' £4,166,006,' and the amount actually' paid in during nine months has been ;g2,897,536,. leaving £1,268, 170. -to f be raised, in the; remaining quarter.. ,,! The revenue foi" the' first idne months of the last financial year was £3,249,520, the; falling-oil? having thus been £352,684. It must be remembered,.., however, ,that £300,000 was/ obtained last year "as a temporary advance, the, actual falling-off being thus reduced t0£52,654.' There is an increase for the nine months of this year .when compared with last of ,£56,000 from, customs,; £34,000 from st.vaips) £"140,000 from railways, £7000 : from post-office, £11,000 from telegraphs, and #I£2,ooounder.the head of " specially applicable." All other departments show a slight increase, with the exception of. the sales of Crown lands, which have fallen off to the extent of £429,000. I There has lately been A practical stoppage •of. Crown land sales, and the deficiency AVill certainly not be reduced before the end of . the year, as the Colonial Treasurer's estimate was £1,220,677; 'leaving £455,000 yet to be raised. Owing to the ipartial stoppage of exports from Home the present quarter's receipts from Customs will also probably show a decrease.
