VOLUNTEER PRIZES.
Sir,— l^l«tt surprised at the ignorance displayed by the writers of letters signed "Carbine" and "Big Gun," respecting a prizepresented some months ago by Mr CarnelKto be fired for by the Artillery Volunteers. Ido not believe that the writercbf either of the above letters are members of the Artillery, or else they would itaow in whose possession the prize has been since being handed over by the donor. 'V 'Through the appearance of the above l^ers I have been taxed with withholding^a prize- given to the battery. I take this' opportunity of informing " Car- *■ -bine", and "Big Gun" that the album '"'-- was giiven some time before I toot -charge of the Artillery, and that I never had charge of it. But for their in-, formation I beg to state that since the appearance of " Carbine's " letter the album has been handed over tome by the late commanding officer of the Artillery, who, I believe, can give a satisfactory reason why the prize has not been fired for. Regretting that "Carbine" and " Big Gun " should deem it necessary to rush into print before finding out the true facts of the case, — I am, &c. , Frank W. Garner, ' Captain F. Battery, N.Z.V.A. Regt.
