EXPECTED ARRIVALS.
Taupo, s.s, from Southern ports Bangafcira, s.s., from Wellington Wanaka, s.s., from Northern ports Rotorna, s.s.j' fronV Sydney, via Auckland Tararua, s.s, from Southern ports Kiwi, s.s., from' Wellington Southern Cross, s.s., from the South Mendosa, ship, from London Chile, ship, from London Acadia, schooner, from Mercury Bay The s.s. Pretty Jane arrived on Saturday from Auckland via Q-isborne. She brought a few passengers and a full goneral cargo. She left again yesterday for Auckland. We are sorry to inform our readers of the death of the" late Captain Smith of the s.s. Mohafea. by drowning, which happened early yesterday morning. We caunot give a correct account of the accident, but what we can glean from the men on board the vessel iB as follows : — When coming out over the bar at Porangahau Captain Smith went up the mast to look out, ana in doing so fell overboard, and there being a heavy sea at the time those on board made for Napior without attempting to save him, they, considering the attempt would be fruitless. We have since heard that the body has been washed up on the beach at Porangahau and taken charge of by the police. The s.s. Kiwi is due here fom Wellington to«day. . . The schooner Columbia, Captain Conway, is discharging her cargo of colonial produce in first-class order. The s.s. Rangatira arrived last evening from Wellington, having experienced a very heavy sea and head wind the whole voyage. The 9.9. Clyde, Captain Petersen, arrived from Wairoa yesterday morning at 11 o'clock, after a passage of only 4| hours. She brought a cargo of wool and a number of passengers. The Clyde is- advertised to steam again for the Wairoa to-morrow night.
