WAIPAWA ODDFELLOWS. FETE.
[FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waipawa, Sept. 19. One of. the greatest events. which has been been known in Waipawa for a long time past occurred yesterday in connection with the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Loyal Abbotsford Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U. The town was gaily decorated with, bunting, and flags of every description were hoisted from all the houses of business. A very large number of people assembled in the streets during the early part of the day, and towards the afternoon, the number was greatly increased. The day was also observed as a half-holiday. The district meeting was held at 11 o'clock, which was very largely attended by members of the order. Sports -were held in the paddock at the rear of the Oddfellows' Hall, and prizes of various descriptions were presented. The strains I of the Waipawa Band also enlivened the proceedings. The hall in which the' dinner and ball were to be held was beautifully decorated, and showed that no efforts had been spared to make the whole affair a thorough success. A procession of Oddfellows was about to be formed just as the train was starting for Napier (3.30 p.m.).
