The s.s. Hawea* Captain Wheeler, arrived in the Napier roadstead at an early hour yesterday morning, having made the run up in 19 hours. The steam launch Sir Donald dropped alongside of her and brought off a large number of passengers for this port and some bound for the North, amongst the latter were Sir George Grey and suite. The Hawea brought some 60 tons of cargo, which she placed on board the Sir Donald and Three Brothers. The departure of the launch, which was announced to leave the breastwork with the outward passengers at 4 o'clock, was, at the request of some of the passengers, postponed for half an hour, thus again exemplifying the liberality of the Union Company. The Hawea left for Poverty Bay, Tauranga, and Auckland at about 5.30 p.m. The s.s. Rangatira, Captain Evans, steamed into the roadstead from Wellington at 11.15 o'clock yesterday morning. She was brought in by Pilot Kraeft during the afternoon and moored to the breastwork. She brings a full general cargo, and commenced discharging yesterday, and will finish to-day. We thank Mr D. Dougherty, the purser, for files and the following report :— Left Wellington at 11.30 a,m, yesterday ; rounded Cape Palliser at 4 p.m. same day, and arrived in Napier roadstead as above stated. Experienced strong head wind and sea to Cape Palliser ; thence till arrival light variable weather. Passed an iron barque painted green off Palliser Bay, running through the Straits. She leaves for Wellington on Saturday next at 3 p.m. The s.s. Fairy, Captain John Campbell, had everything made ready yesterday afternoon for her • departure for Wairoa and Nuhaka, and was to have left about 10 o'clock in the evening. The schooner Isabella Pratt, Capt. Cross, takes a load of wool from this port for one of the English vessels at Lyttelton. The schooner Acadia, Captain M'Donald, took advantage of the breeze yesterday, and left for Auckland at early morn. The s.s. Result, Captain Baxter, is having a merry time of it. She is still in the river at Wairoa. „ We notice that the s.s. Southern Cross is again laid on the berth for Lyttelton, and is announced to steam for that port about Tuesday next. The friends of Mr Dugdale, the purser of the s.s. Rangatira, will be sorry to learn that he is still in a very bad state of health. In last Monday's issue we stated that Mr Selwyn Smith was the manager of the Uuion Steamship Company ; it should of read New Zealand Shipping Company.
