HEAVY FLEECED MERINOS.

The following appears in, the Agricultural Gazette :— Mr Mechi lias sent us the.following note, addressed to Himself :-rjSir,— After 25 years in Australia, New Zealand, North, South, East, and West of America, and the Canadas, and having paid .much attention to sheep and horned stock, to the introduction of the Llama and Alpaca into the colonies, I met with a. stock breeder in America who, after 25 years of close attention, has perfected the breed of pure merinos by a very simple mode of treatment, so that the meat has become much richer in flavor, full weight of carcases, and weight of fleeces not to be seen in any other country,- except just now a few in New Zealand sent by way of San Francisco, ond a further supply about to be sent in September next. I have some of the fleece from this year's clip by mail last week, with a return of the weights of some 02 shorn when my letter was posted. I can vouch for the accuracy of the weights, however incredulous any breeders may bo us to such clips. The following are the declared weights of 92 fleeces, Juno 22, 1877 : — Rams two years old — 321 b, 301 b Boz, 301 b, 251 b Boz, 201 b lloz, 201 b lloz, 201 b 9oz, 201 b 7oz, 191b 1 15oz, 191 b loz, 181 b 15joz, 181 b 15oz, 18lb 6oz, 181 b soz, 181 b soz, 191 b loz, 101 b, 17lb lloz, I7lb 3oz. Ewes of any age— 2Blb. 271 b, 241 b, 231 b, 221 b, 211 b, 181 b( Boz, 171 b soz, 151 b 15oz, 151 b lOoz, 151 b lObz, lf)lb 12oz, 151 b 12oz, 151 b lOoz, 151 b Boz, 151 b 3oz, 151 b loz, 151 b 4oz. Besides! 13 fleeces 141 bto 121 b 15oz, and 30 fleeces 131 b soz. In all my travels these fleece* are not to be surpassed.— R, H. Drew.
