RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Wednesday, May 23. (Before R. Stuart, Esq., #.M.) DRUNKENNESS; George Sinclair was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, as an habitual 'drunkard. The prisoner had been only very recently out of gaol, 'having been sentenced on the 9th of February to thrfee months' imprisonment for being habitually driink. He had only been mit a week when he was again (on the I7tli instant), sent to gaol for 24 hours for being drunk. The man's time, in fact, has been latterly mostly spent in gaol. ASSAULT. A charge of assault made by Honi Wharemako against a person named Shawwas withdrawn, Mr Sheehan, who appeared for the complainant, stating that the matter had been arranged. BREACH OF RAILWAY ACT. Roderick M'Crae, of Waipawa, appeared to an information charging him with using insulting language to Reea Watkins, railway guard, while in the execution of his duty. Defendant admitted the offence, and was fined £2 with Os 6d costs. BREACH OF MUNICIPAL BYE-LAW. John Myhill was fined 10s, with 6s 6d costs, for allowing a chimney in his house to be on fire on fche 20th inst. ALLEGED LARCENY. Charles P. O'Dowd, Janies Neagle, gk' James Daly, Richard Jeffares, and£ Samuel Golding were charged with stealing on the 19th of May at Taradale, from the house and premises of Thomas M'Farlane, a ledger and other books, valued at £G. Mr Rees conducted the prosecution ; Mr Lee defended the accused. At the request of Mr Rees, Samuel Golding was discharged, there being no evidence against him. The case against the other defendants was adjourned until to-morrow-; bail was allowed, each defendant in £50 and two : ■ sureties in £25 each. . „^v There was no other business before the Court. ________
