THE OLIVE ROAD BOARD.

Sir, — Your issue of this morning informs us that a proposal is likely to be made at the next meeting of the Olive Road Board to merge the district in the county. I was not previously aware that there was any intention of the kind, -and I do not think it at all likely that the Olive ratepayers will adopt such a suicidal course. It might possibly suit the ratepayers of some districts to abolish their Road Boards in the hope that they would thus get a larger expenditure out of the county revenue than they have from the local bodies, but I do not think it Avill be found that districts which now have good roads (made to a great extent by their rates) will be found anxious to relinquish institutions which it is admitted have in the past and are still working economically and well. — I am, &c., F. SuTTON. Royston, April 17, 1877.
