The City Council last night sustained a complaint by M' Grain and Tolmes, that Inspector Barnes had been ; guilty of 'obstructing them, in carrying out the contract under the Corporation. It was decided that their contract be carried out under the supervision of another inI spector. ' . Otago. The fee for license to kill game is fixed at 40s for the district of Auckland, and 30s for the provincial district of Otago. In Hawke's Bay game will be open to be killed between the Ist of May, 1877, and the ,31st of July, the same year, but only between sunrise and sunset; and native game may be killed during April, May, June, and July. In the provincial district of Auckland game may be killed between the 21st May and the 31st July, both inclusive, between sunrise and sunset ; and native game during April, May, June, and July. In Otago game may be killed between the Ist of June and 31st July ; and native, game from April to the end of July, inclusive. ' r — By Order in Council the introduction ; into New Zealand of cattle, sheep, or swine from any place beyond the limits of the Australasian colonies is absolutely prohibited, and the. Order in Council is to remain in force until the expiration of two years from the 15th of April next unless revoked. Mr' Doyle, of this city, intends to contest the seat for Totara, vacant by the death of- Mr Tribe. William Findlay, wellknown on the West Coast as a partner in the firm of Hall and Findlayy also intends to contest the seat, and left for the West Coast yesterday for the piirpose of meeting the electors of Totara. March 29. \ The Bay of Islands County Co\mcil have adopted the restricted powers of the Counties Act. Judge Gillies quashed the conviction against Batham, who was fined £25 for an alleged false declaration under the Customs Act. There is a large influx of Southern capitalists to Auckland. Fantham, the famous Christchurch cattle breeder, has purchased an extensive model farm near Cambridge. Studhohne, of Canterbury, has entered into partnership with Thomas Russell and H. C. Jannigin in a large run at Raglan ; Jenkins, of Christchurch, has purchased a large run at Piako ; F. Strange, of Christchurch, has purchased a large block in the same neighborhood ; and Cliolomondely, of Christchurch, has bought the Te Mimi block from the Hon. James Williamson. Specimens from the Moanatairi, weighing 1155 ounces, and estimated to contain between 500 and 600 ounces of gold, were exhibited at the Bank of New Zealand to-day, and were viewed by thousands. ISfo signs of the mail steamer. Peter M'Grath was committed for trial on a charge of having committed a brutal assault on his wife. The evidence discloses most inhuman treatment of a sober, industrious woman by a drunken husband. At the Council meeting, the Mayor stated that advices had been received by the Bank of New Zealand that the balance of the city debentures were sold in London at par. The amount of the Government subsidy, payable to the city, is £2,185. GRAHAMSTOWN,. March 29. Half a ton of rich specimens were procured this morning in the Moanatairi. A single stamper has been going eight hours each day on specimens, and the resuit is for three days, lodged in the bank this morning, 5250 ounces.
