AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY'S MEETING.

A meeting of the members of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held yesterday in the Criterion Hotel. Present : Messrs. Sutteh (in the chair), Mackersey, Bennett, Miller, Heslop, Lyon, Dolbel, J. Chambers, Colemau, Wellwood, Scale, Wigan, G. Peacock, ftoutledge, Twigg, J. Gibbon, Allan M'Lean, Archibald M'Lean, R. Brathwaite, Orr, and R. D. Maney. The Chairman explained that the meeting was held in accordance with a resolution passed at last committee meeting to hold meetings quarterly. The Secretary, after reading the minutes of last meeting, explained with reference to the medals, that they were on their way to the colony in the charge of Captain Hamilton Russell, expected daily. They would be engraved on their arrival here. There was not time to have them engraved it home before his departure. Mr. M. R. Miller, in the absence of the Treasurer, read a summary of the expenditure and receipts for the year. The total of accounts paid to date was £1338 Ts, and the total of liabilities was £205 17s 3d. The society had in the bank £107 2a 3d to credit, and donations to receive £20 U. When all the subscriptions were re:eived, and all liabilities met, the society jronld have about £100 to the good. '

' The secretary; read a statement of the Ploughing Match to the meeting. The total of subscription was £116 15s 6d, and expenditure £63 19s 6d. This left a balance of r £52 16s ,6d, which he would hand over to the society if it was understood that the match should be one of the appointmentsjof the society. ' Mr. Mackersey;, proposed that the yard fees charged at the Ram Fair be (10s) tea shillings each lot offering, half the fee to> be returned if.no sale, is effected. Besides giving= a good revenue, it would have & good effect in preventing rubbish from, being offered. . /; . Mr. Peacock thought to carry out this 1 object some maximum number should be fixed for a lot. : . . Mr. Miller thought that - the Ram Fair was in a different position ' from a show. It was intended that breeders of all classes of sheep should , be able to supply their requirements there. 'He feared' 10s would keep out moderately-bred iams. ' . Heslop and carried : — " That the following charges be paid to the society for the use of the yards, viz. : . 6d per head for all sold up to £5 each ; Is- per head for all sold up to £10 each ; 2s 6d ! per head for all sold over £10 each ; 6d a head on all withdrawn." A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
