THE ELECTION.

Sir, — In spite of your opinion of the offensive nature of " Old Identity's" communication, in the issue of this date, I cannot refrain from cordially endorsing every word that ne has said on the subject. No greater disgrace could befall an intelligent and respectable constituency, than the return of a person hslding the unenviable position occupied by Mr. Sutton in this Province, and the very fact of such return would be a most effective weapon in the hands of the so-called repudiators. As for actual interest ia the town or country, he has little or none. * * * * In knowledge of the wants of the district, in business capability, and power of debate, he ia no whit superior to the other candidates. In local standing, general fitness, and disinterested integrity of purpose, he is superior to several. A month ago, you would yourself have depreciated such a choice, but it is to be hoped that the electors of the town will show as much independence as those at Clive, and choose even a less power fully supported candidate, sooner than be represented by a blatant demagogue. — I am &c, New Blood. January 15, 1877. [Where the asterisks appear, our correspondent had inserted some particulars in reference to Mr Sutton's stake in the province, which either he or we would be called upon to justify before a court of law.— Ed. H.B.H.]
