NATIVE INTELLIGENCE.

The obstruction to the telegraph erection at Oraheikorako, on the line betwefeu Taupo and Tauranga, has we bear been withdrawn, and the line is now rapidly being completed. The obstruction, as we have before stated, was caused by a disagreement between the contractor — who had to find his own telegraph poles — and the natives as to the price to be paid for the timber. From Taupo we hear that Mr. Warbrick, connected with the contractor for the telegraph erection between Taupo and Tauranga, left Tapuaehararu last Monday for Tarawera Moana, aud has not since been heard of. His horse was found in one place, saddle and bundle in another, and bridle in another. Fears ai'e entertained for his safety, and an idea prevails at Taupo that lie had had a fit on the road. Parties are now engaged in searching for him. A large meeting of natives is assembling at Tapuaehararu, the chief Poihipi's place at Taupo. The visitors are chiefly of the Ngatiaukawa and Ngatituwharetou tribes. These people, who were more or less hostile to us during the past year, have for some time past been in communication with Mr, Ormond, the Government agent ; and their object in visiting Taupo is to give formal expression to their desire for future friendly relations with the Government. They also wish road works to be prosecuted in their district. Mr. Locke left yesterday with Mr. Bold to attend the meeting. Mr. F. E. Hamliu, the R.M. for the Bay of Plenty district, is also at Tapuaehararu.
