NATIVE INTELLIGENCE.
The following extract from a telegram received by the Government agent, on the Sight of the 22nd, shows that our forces aris not idle, and that due vigilance is being used on the Taupo side to prevent Te I£ooti's return to Waikato, should he endeavour to escape that way. ■ "Parties of natives are moving about in the neighbourhood of Tawaroa and Horomanga (i.e., on the confines of the Urewera country). At. the former place in the bush, our people got three horses hobbled, and spine. pots. !of hpriey. At Horomanga tbfey came across the tracks of a party of about twenty natives ; Captain Mair is now upon their trail, ' and intends scouting the irajiges^weU-irito the Urew.era country." ■'The above shows that a system is now b'piug established which turns the tables .00 -the enemy. Heretofore they have been accustomed tp scout and harrass our frontiers^ now" we are making their lives uneasy Instead, in their own fastnesses. | • Mr. Ormond has arranged for a native nijeeting to. be held early next month, at Tapuaeharuru, situate where the Waikato river runs put of Taupo lake. Some of the principal chiefs of Waikato have expressed their satisfaction and intend to be present, also the Arawa, and all Taupo and inland tribe^ Mr. M'Leah, Mr. Orraond, and Mr. Locke will attend.
