CRICKET AT MEANEE.
fEBOM A CORRESPONDENT.] On Easter Monday, in a- field afc Meanee, given by Mr. Halle fc for the occasion, the following cricket was played between the Town of Napier and the Country Districts. Neither team was quite in its usual strength, owing, no doubt, to the unsettled state of the weather. However, Monday was everything a cricketer could desire ; the groiind, notwithstanding the heavy rains of the previous week, was also in capital order. About 12' -o'clock Both elevens had made""* their appearance, when, the Town, having won the toss, elected to take the field ;,.the Country, having to handle the willows, which they did effectively, their innings terminating in a score of 150, of which number Fountain contributed 75, going in first, and being one of the last out ; Speedy's 23, and Stevens' 11, were the only other double figures. . The bowling of the Town during this innings was straight, and their fielding good. After a short interval for luncheon, the Town commenced their innings, which terminated in 35 runs. Brathwaite and Sladon both bowled weH r during this innings, in which M'Hugh was the only one that made any stand. The Town, being so many runs iri arrear, had to. follow §lieir innings. When the stump 3 were, drawn their score stood at 50, with seven wickets down, Parsons and Pierson being not out, with scores of 13, and 11 respectively.
