LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — I send the following Educational Plan for publication, should you think it worth so doing : — That the present system of Inspector and Trustee be continued. That the Inspector be paid by Govern* ment. : That, in a radius of three miles from every school-house, a rate as follows should be collected : — ln towns, every family of one child pay one shilling and sixpence per week ; for two or more, sixpence each per week. In the country, one child, two shillings per week ; two children, three shillings and sixpence per week ; three or more, sixpence each per week. That no school fees be charged. That parents bo rated only for children of the age from five to twelve years. That the schoolmasters send to the In* j speetor the number of children in each ; family, of the above mentioned age, every three months. That the schoolmasters have a fixed salary paid quarterly; the usual capitation to be allowed out of surplus funds, which, if not sufficient, the Government to make up the amount. That the police collect tho rate once a month. That auj r parent neglecting to send any child to school for one week, be summoned and fined, upon the information of the schoolmaster, unless the parent can give a satisfactory account for such child or children's absence. That schoolmasters educating their own children be exempt. That widows be exempt, except those in good circumstances, but must send their children to school. That in case of any misfortune, a parent may be exempt from the rate for a time, but must send their children to school. That parents are not bound to send their children to one particular school, but must send them to some school. — I am, &c., J. J. B.
