The f»stisailing brigMaggio left this port on the H(h January last, with a light N.B. wind ; cleared Ciipe Kidnappers Bame oveniug, und bore up for Cook's Straits, the wind dying away at midnight, with unpromising
weather. ,At 2 p.m. on the 18th "was abreast. of "Bare Island, the \?in'd paying veered^fajr to the ssJthward, with heavy^rain.^d^e up ;up fpr the Ea^t Cap^e, whioh^.was .passed 1 , at 6p.nv.ph the 19th;. thtfe wind cojtailal^ell from the southward. Spoke *the~ s.s, Auckland, off Cape Brett, from Sydney, bound to Auckland. Cleared the North Cape at 5 p.m. on the 22nd, and passed 4he,.,po^yiefntnost 'point' of : -i?ew' : Zealand," the Three' Kings, on* the 23rd,' at, 4' p.m., when" the. iwind^uddenly veered round "to the S.K.^ and so continued to ;tbe ;&6th; -jiof therly- wi nds^prevaillng : f or two days afterwards. Qn the 28th, encountered a stvong southerly gale, with heavy sea. Passed a large ship bound to the southward in latitude 33.42 south, longitude 147.24 east. Arrived at her destination, Newcastle, N.S.W., at G a.m. on the Ist February ; discharged ballast, &c, the same night ; loaded a cargo of coal, and sailed at 11 a.m. on the 14th for Hobart Town. Experienced light variablo winds till off Jarvis Bay, when it came on a heavy gale from the southward, with heavy [ sea, vjrhich continued for three days; but it moderated next day, and had fine weather till off Cape Pillar ou the 17th, when another heavy gale came on from the southward. Entered the river Dertrenfc about 3 p.m. on the 18th ; came to anchor at Hobarl Town at 6 p.m., and hauled alongside the wharf,commencing to discharge the next day, 19th, and finishing on the 26th. Began loading on the 28th, finished on the 4th March, and left for Napier on the sth ; but, owing to a strong southerly breeze coming on, she camo to an anchor in Sandy Bay. At 2 p.m. on the 6th, the wind chopped round to the ' northward ; weighed anchor, and proceeded to sea, roundingCape Pillar the same day, and experiencing strong southerly weather for two days, when" light variable winds and- fine weather were met with. Made the land (New Zealand) at 10 p.m. on the 15th, and passed Cape Farewell at G a.m. on the 16th. Spoke the schooner Canterbury same day, bound from Greymouth to Port Cooper. Had light airs and calms till the 19th, on which day spoke the schooner Duriedin, bound to Hokitika. Passed through Cook's Straits on the 21st, and had light variable winds up the coast j passed Capo Kidnappers at 7.30 a.m. on Thursday, the 24th, and brought up in the roadstead at noon the same day, entering the Ircn Pot on Saturday last.- ' ..
