Vacant Seat.— The electors of Mongonui, province of Auckland, have sent a requisition to his Honor the Superintendent asking that gentleman to come forward as their representative in the General Assembly in the place of Mr. Ball, who has resigned in consequence of 'bis intended visit to England. Mr. Gillies, we understand, has accepted toe invitation of the electors. Feat of Strength. — The Evening Star tells us that a short time ago, at Auckland, William Munro, a shoeing-sniith, of Durham-street, performed a marvellous feat of strength and endurance. For a wager of £10 he was to carry two weights of twentyreight pounds, one in each, hand, from Auckland to .Newmarket. Bets were freely laid at 20 to 1 that it could not be accomplished, as almost, every one is aware how a weight seems to increase after holding it in the hand. He started from the Anchor Hotel with a weight in each hand, and arrived at , Cunningham's Newmarket Hotel,.a, distant of twoimiles and three hundred yards, without sitting on the way, easily winning the wager.
