DEPARTURE OF THE TROOPS.
About nine o'clock on Wednesday morning, the two companies of the 18th Royal Irish stationed here were drawn up in front of the barracks. The Napier Brass Band, which had kindly volunteered to escort them to the place of embarkation, was in attendance. They marched through the town, up the Shakespereroad, to thVSpit, where the troops were conveyed on board H.M.S. Virago. The embarkation was managed with great expedition, the whole thing being over by half-past ten, and also with the utmost order and regularity. We did not see a single soldier ' intoxicated, or irregularity of any kind. The detachment goes first to Wellington, where the Virago will take on board the Wanganui detachment, thence to Sydney, which is their destination in the meantime. We bid them God speed, and wish that wherever their lot may be cast they may find friends as cordial and as sincere as they, have left behind in Napier. The. women and children follow this morning, in the Phoebe. Some 18 men will receive their discharges, about 10 of whom have elected to remain in Napier.
