LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

The Editor does not hold himself responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents. THE SPIT WEIGHBRIDGE. Sib,— l wish to call attention to a matter which interests not only myself, but the general public also. I refer to the weighbridge, on the Eastern Spit, which originally belonged to the Provincial Government, "jut which, a few months ago, passed into the hands of a private individual, in a manner which was eminently unsatisfactory. No tenders were called ; and by the absolute sale of the weighbridge to an interested party, all those who have occasion to use the machine are, so to speak, at his mercy. The weighbridge is, as is well known, upon the public road, and is, therefore (as it now belongs to a private individual, who works it for Ms ownprqfit), an encroachment on the public, highway. If Mr. Robjohns' section (which is opposite the weighing machine) was fenced in, the width of the roadway would be so curtailed that two carts, or drays, could scarcely pass each other without danger of collision. It is an utter farce for the owner of the machine to advertise his coals as . " weighed per Government Weighbridge." It is a private affair, — in fact, a monopoly. lam, &c, A Lover op Fate Plat.
