The s s. Phoebe thrived, at Lyttelton from Wellington on the 15th instant. ' The fine ship Melita arrived at Wellington from London on the 15th instant. The 8.8. Claude Hamilton arrived at Wellington from Nelson on the 16th instant. The s.s. Lord Ashley arrived at Wellington from Fioton on the 16th instant. • H.M. s.s. Eosario left Wellington last Wed. nesday for Tauranga. The s.a. Star,of the South left last WedneS' day for the coast, and will return in a few days with a cai'go of wool. The Colonial Government gunboat Sturt, Oapt. Fairchild, left last Wednesday for Wairoa, and all the military and dofenoo depots along the; coast. Mr. St. John Branigan, the Commissioner, has the use of the vessel for the purpose of inspecting those places. By the Auckland papers the ship Chile is expected there hourly.
