New Insolvent. — It will be seen from advertisement that Thomas Sanders of Clive has filed a declaration that he is unable to meet his engagements. Master Brandon, we regret to say, was yesterday seriously injured in the face by an explosion of a small quantity of gunpowder with which he had been playing. Cobb's Coach, or, rather, the team, bolted yesterday morning at starting, and narrowly escaped coming to grief at Monoy's corner, where the driver jumped off. The horses continued their furious gallop up Shakespeare road, but, fortunately, when abreast of Mr. Holder's house, they were pluckily stopped by Mr. M'Leod before any damage had been done. Tradesman's Ball. — An anniversary ball under this designation was given in the Oddfellow's Hall on the evening of Tuesday last. The hall was very tastefully decorated, and the company, which numbered 50 couples, and which fairly represented the middle classes of the community, seemed thoroughly to enjoy themselves. The Napier Brass Band was in attendance, and- a most excellent supper, served on the stage in the style for which Mr. Johnson is becoming so well known, was done ample justice to by all present. Dancing was kept up to an early hour next morning, and nothing occurred to mar in any way the festivity of the meeting. Bachelder's Diorama.— —This interesting exhibition was opened for the first time in Napier last evening. The weather was most unfavorable, and the attendance in consequence was small, especially in the reserve seats. The diorama, of the American war is an exceedingly pleasing as well as instructive entertainment — the stirring scenes of that memorable struggle being depicted with all the skill of the painter, while the effect is materially assisted by aids of a mechanical character. We recommend every one to pay it a visit, feeling assured that none will regret the time and money so Bpent, The music, we should add, was very superior.
