Death of the Hon. J. P. Fawkner, M.L.O. — Melbourne telegrams announce the death of this gentleman, at the advanced age of seventy-seven years. He was, ,we believe, one of the last living representatives of the party who made an abortive attempt to colonise Port Phillip in 1803, under Governor Collins. This futile attempt at settlement was abandoned in the following year, and Mr. Fawkner, then about 10 years of age, was transferred with his father's family and the settlers to Van Diemen's Land. Thirty years afterwards he was one of the pioneer settlers of Port Phillip, having in company with four others crossed the Straits from Tasmania in a small craft, and made a camp on the banks of the Yarra Yarra. Mr. EawJcner had been for many years an active member of the Legislative Council of Victoria, : But during the last twelve months his constitution had been gradually, breaking up.andupon his being seized with his last illness, about a month since, hi«j Mifijdical attendants at once pronounced hopeless.' \ ; , "'■'.■■■'■'.' ■.'.'.,..-' is Nature's physician/and s essential to human happineos.--GALB2T.
