ARTILLERY COMPANY.
A meeting was held last evening, in the Council Chamber, convened for the purpose of forming an Artillery corps. About fifty persons were present, and Mr. A. Kennedy was voted to the chair. After some discussion as to whether the intended corps should be a foot or mounted body, it was decided in favor of the latter, and a resolution to that effect was passed unanimously. The next resolution was to the effect that a list be at once opened of the names of persons willing to join the proposed corps. It was agreed to, and fhe names of 28 persons were at once taken. The next step was the election of officers on the part of those who had actually joined. Mr. Cuff was proposed as captain, and Mr. Edward Hamlin as Ist lieutenant. Both nominations were agreed to unanimously. This terminated the business of the meeting, which was entered into very heartily by those present, and which bids fair to result in the formation of a very effective addition to the local forces of the province.
