BUCKLAND's REPORT. At the Waiuku Bale, although tho weather was very severe, all the cattle advertised were penned. There were numerous buyers, and good competition throughout the sale. The eighteen-montba steers ranged from £6 ss. to £6 12s. Gd. eaoh ; dairy cows, £9 to £13 ; well reared calves, from £3 ss. to £4 each. 115 head sold. | At Bemuera, on Thursday, there was a scarcity of good dairy cows. Those forward in calf were in request. , Growing store cattle were lower in price, and yearlings and calves I brought from £3 to £5 eaoh. Fat cattle were in short bupply, but tbere waa no alter* ation in values ,* they brought from 375. to 425, the lOOlbs. Sheep were also in short supply ; tbey were of good quality, and met with a ready sale. The consignment from Taranaki brought rather over 255. each. Small porkers were more numerous than usual, but last week's high prioe was fully sustained. MESSRS. HUNTER AND CO.'S REPORT. There was a marked inorease in the number of horses offered at the Durham Yards during the last week. There was a fair mus* ter brought to auction on Saturday. Animals of a good stamp met with ready sale, but in* ferior sorts were slow of sale. Good light and heavy draught horses are muoh inquired after, and oommand advanoed prices. Hacks are not so much sought after, but really good ones would sell readily. We did not sell any first'Clasa draught horses, but medium were quitted at from £14 to £29 ; light harness, from £7 10s. to £14 ; hacks, £G 15s. to £8 2s. Gd.. There was a moderate supply of cattle at Newmarket on Monday, Dairy cows sold freely, prices showing an upward tendency. . Store stook, particularly yearlings, were in brisk "demand, _nd obtained extreme rates. Fat beasts were not numerous, but some prime lots changed hands at improved, prioes, although there was an evident disinclination on the part of the trade to purchase largely, stocks being weighty. The following is a list of prices :— Dairy cows from £11 2 a. 6d. ; calveq from £3 to £3 155. ; two-year-old steers from £7 2s. Cd. to £7 7s. 6d. ; 1. -yearold steers from £5 ss, to £5 12s. 6d. ; beef from SSs. to 40s. per 1001 b. Sheep : An average number of medium quality offered,' and found ready sale at about last week's prioes. Pigs were in short supply, and were keenly competed for. MESSRS. CAREY AJSD GILLIES'S REPORT Although the markets were not overstocked with beef this week, yet in consequence of the large purohases made by tbe trade during the last two weeks, a number of whioh were still on hand, the competition was not so brisk as might otherwise have been expected. A number of prime cattle were withdrawn, owners showing, an inclination to hold for a higher figure than offered. We may quote first-olass beef, 40s. to 425, ; seoond-olass and inferior, 345. to 87e. There is no improve* ment in the values of full-grown store cattle, owing to the scarcity of grass. Young stock are in demand, especially heifers, selling readily at good figures. Fat cheep main, tamed fully last week's quotations, realising 4d to 5d per lb. At the Junction Yards on Wednesday, we obtained the following prioes :•— Fat "cattle ; we disposed of a number of Napier cattle, first Class quality, at from £12 15s. to £18 10s. per head, being an average of 40s to 42s ; also a shipment from Wanganui, from £9 to £10 7s.
