ANGORA WOOLS.

To the Editor of the " Sydney Herald." -'■ v Sib, — When the depressing hews for the' colony-arrived by this mail thatr wool had fallen 2d. the lb., and was still* drooping; it was gratifying to receive intelligence by ,' the same mail thai; one of our new" introductions, the . " Angora wool mohair, or goat's hair," had obtained 2s. 6d.,the lb. in the London market, accompanied with the information that had there been a larger quantity a higher price might have been obtained. In the seventh report of the Acclimatisation Society of New South. ■ Wales, it was stated that " Mr. Black, of • Muswellbropk, forwarded to the "council 14 lbs. of Angora wool, which had' been 1 taken from five female goats, but the ave^ ' rage yield is from 4to 5 lbs. each. The sample has been sent to; England; for the • purpose of ascertaining its commercial value. The sample was kindly forwarded by Messrs. Binnie and M'Elnone to their London agents, and by the last niail the following letter and account sales, dated December 4th, 1868, were received:^2, Moorgate-streefc-buildinga, Moorgate*at., London, 8.C., 4th Deo., 1868. Messrs. Johnson & Allsop, Copthall-buildings. Dear Sirs,— We have examined your small fj&mpla of mohair, and find it, for colonial hair, of very nice qualify, and worth, we should consider, to-day, were there a large parcel of it, from 29, 8 d. to Si. . . 9d. per lb. As there are only a few pounds it will, . however, be difficult to dispose of. ■: ) •■■-,.■ v The cultivation and consumption of niohair seems both increasing, and the Angora goat has ' been introduced with considerable suceesd at the Cape of Goo.l Hope, from which colony we now re- ' ceive from 100 to 150 bales per annum. At first, from crossing with the native goat, it dame dreadfully mixed and inferior, and sold at from 6d. to Is. per lb. Now/ as the pure-bred animals increase in. . number, a more careful assortment is made, and in late sales from lOjd. to 2s. 7d. per ft. has been realised. \ . In looking »t th°se prices, however, it must not be lost sight of that, whereas tho average price of good average Asia Minor mohair ia about Bs. Bd. to 3s. per lb., the present value of the article is 53. 7 d.
