(Prom the " Sydney Empire.") By Elkcteic Teleqeaph. Monday, Feb. 15. The Galatea arrived at 7 this morning. H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh landed in our launch at Glenelg, where he was received by his Excellency the acting Governor, and driven in a carriage drawn by. four horses to Adelaide. The Prince is in excellent health, and is I likely to visit Sydney in about a week. There was a great demonstration on the arrival of the Prince in Adelaide. Bells were set ringing, and there was soon an extensive display of flags. The Town Hall is to oe illuminated tonight. His Excellency Sir James Ferguson, the new Governor, is on board the Avoca. It is reported that the Prince has authority to knight several leading coloI nists. — Empire. The ball to the Prince comes off at the Town Hall on Wednesday, and the races on Friday. He will positively leave for Melbourne on Friday night. . Tuesday. , The Government offices have all been closed to-d&y, and a general holiday observed, in consequence of the installation j of the new Governor his Excellency Sir James Ferguson. His Excellency was sworn in at the Town Hall in the presence of H.R.H. the Prince and a large concourse of persons, including the leading officials and most prominent colonists. The Prince went to the theatre yesterday evening, accompanied by the Governor, and was most enthusiastically re- ' ceived. j A grand ball is to come off to-morrow in honour of the Prince, and there are to be races on Friday. ! The Galatea is to sail for Melbourne on I Friday. The home news has made the corn market still firmer. Buyers of wheat are numerous, at 4s. 6d. ; holders ask 4s. 7d. Owing to some papers not having been received from the Home Office, Sir J. Ferguson was only sworn in as LieutenantGovernor. The Galatea is to be open to the public on Friday. All business is suspended. Wednesday. The weather has been hot to-day. Wheat is firm at 4s. 6d. to 4s. 7d. per bushel. Prince Alfred, accompanied by Sir James Ferguson, visited Lady Daly, at Glenelg, yesterday afternoon. To-day his Royal Highness has gone on a visit to the Hon. J. Baker, Moriajta. Sir James Ferguson held a levee to day, which was numerously attended. Another levee will 'be held on Monday, and a drawing-room by Lady Edith, on Wednesday. Friday next is gazetted as a public holiday. A large fire is visible to the north-east of Adelaide. Thursday. H.R.H. the Prince laid, to-day, in the presence of a large crowd, the foundation stone of the Sailors' Home. The sailors of the Galatea were nearly all present. The Prince, as well as his Excellency the Governor and most of the leading public officials, attended the Colonists' Ball last night. The ball was a great success, and the Prince was received very enthusiastically. The weather is very hot. Sales of wheat, deliverable at the Port, have been made at 4s. Bd. per bushel.
