WAIROA.
[PROM OUB OWtf CORBESPONDENT.J February 18, 1869. The arrival and departure of the paymaster, together with the bad weather, comprise all the items of recent date in any way affeotirig our community. The various disbursements by the Government on account of friendly natives, have already reached some £3000 for this district alone. As for the bad weather, there' has been nothing like it for years at this season, Ushered in by a smart shock of earthquake, seemingly the fitting accompaniment to the tremendous heat, we have had a deluge of rain, bringing down heavy freshes in the rivers, and converting every gully into a water-course ; the wind blowing fitfully in boisterous gusts from all points of the compass, exhibiting perhaps on the whole a preference for the S.W. Something has evidently gone very wrong in the clerk of the weather's department, as what he has lately treated us with has been a lively image of chaos, with air, land, sea, and all the elements in the wildest and most refractory confusion.
