Napier Militia.— The following appointments are notified in a Gazette dated the 29th January : — Edward Lister Green to be Major, date of commission Ist October, 1868; Ensign Alexander St. Clair Inglis to be Lieutenant, date of commission 6th January, 1869 ; Ensign Charles Cotton Lambert to be Lieutenant, date of commission 7th January, 1869. Respecting the services of the first-named gentleman, we take the following from Hart's Army List: — Major Green served at the Cape of Good Hope from 1847 to 1858, and in India and China 1858 to 1860, and held the following appointments uninterruptedly for eleven years — Military Secretary, Aide-de-Camp, Dep.-Assist. Adjutant General, Dep. -Assist. Quarter-Master General, and Adjutant of a Depot Battalion. He served in the Kaffir wars of 1847 and 1850-3; was severely wounded in the former war when commanding the rear-guard. In the latter war served as A.D.C. to General j Somerset, and D.A.Q.M. General with head-quarters of Sir George Catbcarfc (received medal); Served with the China ■ expedition in 1860 until the surrender of ,Pekin,,as D.A.A.G, of the Ist division, received the medal and clasps, and the rank of Major for this service.
