Tite Customs authorities at Melbourne have made a seizure of a number of casks shipped at Sydney as containing eggs, for transhipment at Hokitika, but which have been each found to contain 2cwt tobacco. Good Nmjs fob our Graziers.— Butchers' meat is reported to be very scarce on the West Coast at present. Beef has brought as much as £3 10s. a cwt. at flokitika ; and at Westport also the demand is considerably in excess of the supply.— Independent, Jan. 2.
