POVERTY BAY.
The Ahuriri arrived from Poverty Bay yesterday. Our correspondent's interesting letters are to hand, but they are too lengthy for this issue. 60 Arawas arrived on the 22nd inst., by the St. Kilda. On the 23rd, an expedition, which comprised nearly all the available forces, started for Ngatepe, where the enemy is supposed to be in force. Renatn, a chief taken by Te Koofci, had escaped and given valuable information respecting the enemy. Four of the Hau Hau scouts had been met — two of whom were shot down. On the 24th most of the Poverty Bay survivors started with Major Westrup for the front, to take part in the expected attack on Ngatepe. On the 25ih the Ahuriri arrived from Waiapu witli 180 Ngatiporous. Three strong redoubts liavp been erected by the forces under Colonel Whituiore. On the 25th information reached Turanganui that a parly of the enemy had been overtaken by our forces, and that fighting had commenced ; but no particulars were known. The latest news is that our forces had arrived before the enemy's stronghold.
