EXTRAORDINARY STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER.

' ; Sydney, August 25. Me. Pabkes, the Colonial Secretary, in addressing his constituents yesterday, said that he was in possession of evidence that Prince Alfred's assassination had been a planned affair, and that one person who possessed the conspirator's secret was foully murdered before the Prince was attacked, lest he should-afterwards turn approver.

• August 26.' The extraordinary statement of Mr. Parkes, made to his constituency on Monday evening, has been much commented upon, and the hon. gentleman asserts that the remarks he made are supported by affidavits in the possession of the Government. •

August 28. The statement made by Mr. Parkes, the Colonial Secretary, respecting the alleged Fenian conspiracy is still exciting a large amount of attention. The Syd/ney Morning Herald demands that the proofs said to be in possession of. the Government, should be made public. A public meeting has been called for Monday next to take the matter into consideration, and if possible ascertain what foundation there may have been for the statement.

August 31. Archbishop Polding has issued a pastoral warning Catholic citizens from attending the public meeting to-night called for the purpose of inquiring into the statement made by MrV-'Parkes, the Colonial Secretary, with reference to an alleged Fenian conspiracy prior to the attack on the Duke of Edinburgh. A similar notice was given yesterday in all the city chapels: An unexpected difficulty to holding the meeting has occurred, as the trustees of the Masonic Hall have to-day refused to permit its use for the purpose intended.
