A Linendeaper who has lately taken a business in the leading thoroughfare in London, lias issued a circular to his customers in which his carte- de-visite is presented. Houses are almost daily taken down and conveyed to the Thames for re-erec-tion, where they command high rents. Indeed, there are scores of houses in the suburbs which have been long tenantless that could not be put to better purpose. We have lately missed sight of the whole of Caliope Terrace on the North Shore ; and passing through "Wellington-street yesterday we noticed two large houses in course of removal for the centre of attraction, the Thames. — N. Z. Herald, Aug. 28. Tauhang-a. — The Tidal Wave. — On Saturday, 15th instant, in the afternoon, a remarkable phenomenon was witnessed by the inhabitants of Maketu. It being high water at the time, the sea suddenly and rapidly receded until the river was below low water mark, when it as suddenly flowed again ; this occurred at intervals until the evening. No motion of the earth was perceptible, but a rock, ■weighing several tons, situate near the mouth of the river turned completely over, doubtless from the force of the water. — Correspondent 2V. Z. Herald. The Scene of the Wreck. — Tory Channel, one of the outlets of Queen Charlotte Sound, offers very precarious navigation inconsequence of a rock, termed the Boat Harbor Rock, which, in certain states of a swift running tide, requires the greatest possible care, to. pass. Captain Francis is proverbially a careful and vigilant seaman, and most unlikely to neglect any necessaiy precautions, especially as, about a fortnight ago, the Lady Bird touched this very same rock, a circumstance which we believe led to the discharge of her captain and crew.
