The wedding cortege, consisting of four carriages displaying favors, arrived at the church at 11 o'clock. The bride, who was attended by four bridesmaids — ( Miss Rhodes, Miss Hickson, Miss Marchant, and Miss Wright — was given away by Wm. Hickson, Esq. ; her uncle, Captain Khodes, being unavoidably absent, his presence as an important witness at a trial at the Supreme Court, to-day, being compulsory. During the performance of the ceremony, the church, was crowded by the friends of the happy couple ; and, at its close, the party proceeded to Mrs. Wright's residence, where a numerous company assembled to partake of the wedding breakfast, laid out in Peter Laing's best style. Later in the afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Marchant left in the steamer Wellington for a wedding tour in the provinces of Canterbury and Otago. Many ladies and gentlemen witnessed the departure of the bride and bridegroom, and the scene presented a gay appearance, the steamer being dressed in holiday attire and having all her bunting flying. As the vessel moved from the wharf three cheers were given for the young couple.—Evening Post, June 10.
