ARRIVAL OF THE PANAMA MAIL.

The P.N.Z. & A.R.M. Co's s.s. Ruahine, T. S. Beal, commander, arrived in Wellington on Thursday last, 26th inst,, at 12.30 p.m. She left Wellington on the Bth March, at 4 p.m., and arrived at Panama on the 3rd April, at 7 a.m., thus making the passage a day under contract time. Fine weather and favorable winds were experienced to the equator ; from thence to Panama strong head winds. Previous to arrival, the following complimentary address was presented to Captain Beal by Lord Lyttelton, on behalf of the saloon passengers : — S.s. Ruahine, at sea, April 2, 1808. Dear Sir,— We congratulate you on the approaching termination of our rapid and prosperous voyage from Sydney and Wellington to Panama. We have found your ship most comfortable and the arrangements for our accommodation very satisfactory, and we have to thank, not only yourself, but every one of your officers for uniform courtesy and attention. We think anyone desirous of making the journey will be fortunate if he take passage in the Ruahine with the same commander and officers. We hope to transmit to you from London a token of our friendly remembrance, which may serve to remind you and your family of the regard entertained for you by the passengers who sailed with you in March, 1868. Signed on behalf of the saloon passengers, . LYTTEi/rosr. To Captain T. S. Beal. The sum of £8 Is 3d was collected on board by Capt. Beal for the benefit of the Sailors' Home, Sydney. The Ruahine left Panama on the 24th April, at 6 p.m., and has had nothing but a succession of calms and head winds during the entire passage, a total absence of trade winds compelling her to ti*ust entirely to steam ; arrived at Opara on the 14th, at 8 a.m. ; left on the 15th at 3 p.m. The barque Esk, from Newcastle, with coals for the Company, arrived at Opara on the 14th May. The Ruahine brings a large mail, about 400 packages cargo, andthe following passengers : — For Wellington— Mr. R. Taylor, Mr. D. Parker, Mr. D. Anderson. For Canterbury — Mr. W. Scott, Mr. Steel, Mrs. Steel, Miss Steel. For Nelson— W. A. Wix. For Greymouth — Mr. J. Blackmore. For Auckland — Sir George Arney, Mr. H. Hall, Rev. G. Smales. For Melbourne — Dr. G. Huston, Mr. G. Huston, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Westgate.
