Peace is considered as only patched up. The Emperor Napoleon intends visiting Berlin. Advices from Crete state that the insurrection is ended. The latest telegrams assert that Garibaldi intends going to Rome. Martial law has been proclaimed in Spain, and there have been numerous en- , gagements with the insurgents, who have Jbeeri unsuccessful. The latest telegrams via the Atlantic cable state that General Grant protests against Sheridan's removal by President Johnston. President Johnston has proclaimed a general amnesty with certain exceptions. England has declared war against Abyssinia. The force to be engaged will comprise twolineregiments, fourteen regiments of Indian infantry and cavalry, .and two batteries of royal artillery, besides mountain guns. . The Viceroy of Egypt has been requested to provide five thousand camels for the expedition. ** The Peace Congress has dissolved in a disorderly, manner. The St. Leger was won by Achievement. A frightful accident has occurred on the Great Indian Peninsular Railway, owing to a collision with a runaway engine, and several persons were killed and many iniured.
The Telegraphic Conference has been held. It is proposed to reduce the charges over the Indian line.
