[fBOM OUK OWN COEEESPOBpENT.]; Clyde, August IV •- These is really little or nothing going on. in this place at present, except at the Resident Magistrate's Court, where business appears to be on the increase : no less than ten or a dozen cases were disposed of yesterday. There ' is one thing I think ought, to be taken notice of, that is, in regard tothe only road w;e have leading* ftoni £ IftU^ town into the country ; it is merely a bridletrack, and surely it would hot ■ cost • thY V Goyernment any very great amount of capital to put it into a state fit for equestrian purposes. It is truly in a ! shocking condition, not so much where the road is made, but where it is not made/viz;, be- '' tween Dr. Boyd's and the late Mr. Lewis's. People wishing to ride to Turiroa^ or 'ss7: where on the town side of river^ajre . obliged to go at least a roile out of the direct line of road, crossing raupo swamps and deep muddy creeks which are dangeron^ not for themselves, but for their horses. Many a time have I bogged my horse there and had difficulty in extricating him. I hear that the only objection to the road going through that part of. the land rest* with Man Earaka, the widow of the late chief Kopu; he, when living, so far from raising an objection, expressed a wish that it should be made, and promised to render any assistance in his power towards its com-- pletion. Considering that this bridle track is the only available road from the town to the country, and the only ride that the in* habitants of Clyde have for recreation, Bomething ought to be done. Rumours are afloat that .the Hauhaus are • again about to show their teeth. They intend attacking in three different places simultaneously, viz., at, Tauranga,, Te Wairoa, and Napier ; their reason for this; . movement being revenge for the death of Rangihiroa. This is purely a Maori report, and I therefore place very little reliance in it. However, I shall perhaps be better able to give you, more particular in my* next. .' , . : •...,, ' !; .'-V '..•" ...
