Hawke's Bay Herald SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1867.
We trust that the events of yesterday morning will shew the public the value of the fire engine, small though it be, and the necessity of strengthening the ranks of the fire brigade, as well as of affording the necessary pecuniary assistance to keep the establishment in efficient working order. The hose of the ' eDgine is in a lamentably leaky condition ; and in many other respects the gear wants replenishing. Something should be done, and no greater encouragement could possibly be given than the very effectual service it has just been the means of rendering.
