The Colonial Government gun-boat Sturt, Captain Fairchild, left Auokland on Thursday, 3rd January, at 9 a.m., having on board 1 24 pounder and two howitzers for Napier. She arrived at Tauranga next day at 4 p.m., left at 7 p.m., and arrived at Opotiki at 4 a.m., on the Sth ; left the same evening at 6 o'clock, and arrived at Waiapu next morning at 7 o'clock ; shipped a quantity of ammunition, left at noon, and arrived at Poverty Bay at 8 p.m., left on the 7th (Monday last) at 7 p.m., and steered for Wairoa, but on arriving off the bar found the surf too high to attempt a landing; proceeded to Napier, and arrived here at 7 o'clock on the morning of Tuesday last. The Sturt steamed for Wellington at 6 o'clock the same evening. Although, under the indomitable management of Capt, Fairchild, the Sturt has performed the voyage iv perfect safety, it is still stated on reliable authority that she, has been condemned as utterly unseaworthy. Took in some cargo and coals, and left on the evening of Monday the 7th at 9 p.m. Had moderate S.E. wind to Cape Palliser ; thence to Napier fresh northerly winds. Arrived in tho Iron Pot at 6.30 p.m., on the 9th. The Star of the South has received on board another cargo of cattle for Lyttelton, with which she sails this morning.
