MISCELLANEOUS.
THE detention of the Lord Ashley, which did not arrive till the morning of the 261h, instead of the 251h, was owiu«j to a slight accident having occurred to the machinery between Lyttelton and Wellington. She steamed for Auckland on the 26th, at half-past 3 p.m. The Tararua, on her way from Sydney to Nelson and Wellington, went ashore on Cape Farewell, in a fog. By throwing overboard her deck cargo bhe soon got off, however, having sustained comparatively little damage. The Sturf, we learn, was not in a condition to receive a sea-going certificate, and the sale would not, it was assumed, hold good in consequence. The St. Kilda, for Wairoa, steamed from the roadstead sometimo during the nijiht of Wednesday last. Sco was off Wairoa River next day,' but could not communicate, owing to a heuvy souther blowing at the time. She then steamed in tho direction of Long Point.
