Local Intelligence.
The Highland Brigade.— Am oug the passengers from the south by the ' Rangitira' was Mr, Charles Cameron, who for some time past has been actively engaged in. enlisting for a volunteer company to be designated the Highland brigade. He has with him some twenty volunteers, which will make up the complement of a hirticlred men — the remainder having gone by the West Coast. He is an old settler and explorer I and likely to be a -rough* customer should he eonue in contact with the enemy. We hope to hear of his having good fortune at the seat of ,*w;ar. ; -His Honok the Supebintendest left for iAuckland, yesterday afternoon, in the steamer "JKangatira." During his absence, which is not expected to be more than a week— his intention being to return per Kangatira— Joteph Rhodes, Esq., will be Deputy Superintendent.. •THE Writ for the Country Districts was issued on Monday. The election notice will be found in another column. It will be seen thatthe nomina--1 tion is fixed for -the 30th iust.
