To the Editor of the Hawke's Say Herald. Sib, — I always understood that to take out a publican's license it is one of the requisites to keep a trustworthy boat for the ferry (if situated by a river) ; if lam right how is it that there is no boat at Porangahau, as I arrived at that place last Monday week but did not cross the river that night, and the rain coming on I could not get either way for a week, as there was no boat or canoe at the river and no bridge at the Mangamairi Creek, although I hear that the Government have been going to put a bridge across the creek for the last twelve months and the Government Surveyor was down once for an hour and picked out the site, but since that nothing has been done. I was told by the residents that this is no new thing, as all last year, winter and summer, if the river was at all risen they coo Id not cross, and their letters would often lay at Lamb's for a week, as they could not cross the river to get the.m Hoping this will be rectified by appearing in the Hawke's Bay Herald, Believe me, Tours, &c, A TRAVELLER. Waipukurau, April 16, 1862.
