SALE OP MERINO SHEEP. XHB PBOEBBTTOB &. KICH, ESQ." ; ;.- This well-known flock was disposed of by public auction, on Thursday and Friday, the 31st October and Ist November last. The imported sheep were submitted singly ; the rams in pens containing from 4 to 12 each, and the ewes in pens of 5 each. Thirty-six imported pure bred Spanish realised £996. The purchasers in this class were Messrs. Wilkin, of Avon Bank ; Studholme Brothers, F. D. Rich, Clough & Co., Melbourne ; Goldney Brothers, and Mrs. O'Connell, of Mount Grey. Two of these ewes, purchased by Mr. F. D. Eich, attained the price of £50 each, on the fall of the hammer. Six imported French ewes were eagerly sought for, and the competition in each case was spirited. They realised the sum of £247, and the hammer fell to the bidding of Messrs. Clough & Co., Goldney Brothers, B. Wilkin, and P. D. Rich, who purchases for his Otago country. A large advance on the price (£55) given by Messrs. Clough A Co., for one of these ewes, was offered to their agent after the sale, but of course declined. Four hoggets, out of Spanish ewes by French rams,realised the sum of £73, and join the nocks of Messrs. E. Wilkin, Studholme Brothers, andF. D. Eich. Four ewes, by imported Spanish ram out of French ewes, realised £124, and were purchased by Messrs. Goldney Brothers, Harman and Wilkin. Three ewes, of mixed French and Spanish blood, were knocked down to Mr. E. Wilkin and Mrs. O'Connell, for the sum of £59. Five ewes and three lambs, of the Mount Eden and Spanish nock, fell to the bidding of Messrs. Goldney Brothers, for the sum of £105. Forty-five dry ewes, of the same flock, were bought by the same purchasers for the sum of £315. Thirty-four pens, containing one hundred and seventythree ewes and lambs of the Mount Eden flock, realised £1,368, and were purchased by Messrs. J. and S. Bealey, Goldney Brothers. B. Wilkin, E. Chapman, and Mrs. O'Connell. Twelve guineas per head was the highest price for any one pen of this lot. One hundred and fifty ewes of this flock nave been sold to Mr. F. D. Eich, and will accompany his other purchases to Otago. About 100 ewes of the Shakespeare breed are still on hand, and . will be placed in the charge of Mr, F. D. Eich hvOtago, with the two rams bought in by Mr. G. Eich for the sum! of £600, on his own account, an offer of £7los. havingbeen refused for them. V , '"; Two imported pure bred Spanish rams, each of which had taken first class prizes in Germany, were bought; in byMr.G. Eich for the sum of £600. ■ >-..,-. ! A pure bred Spanish Merino ram, imported, was pur--1 chased for Messrs. Clough & Co., of Melbourne, for the sum of £150. A lot of five Shakespeare rams were spiritedly competed | for, and were knocked down to Mr. F. D. Eich for the ! sum of £100. i Two pens, containing twelve each, of ram lambs, by i the Shakespeare rams just mentioned, were purchased by Messrs. Goldney Brothers, and J. S. Caverhill. We are given to understand that Mr. Caverhill purchases for his Motunau run. These lots fetched £150. Twenty-eight pens, containing 219 rams, from two to four tooth, a portion of which were by the Spanish merino ram, out of the Mount Eden Saxon merino ewes, were sold at various prices, ranging from £5 to £10 10s. per head, and realised £1408 14s. The purchasers of these lots were : Messrs. Caverhill, nine pens ; T. W. Trolove, of Nelson, six pens ; B. Waitt, of Double Corner, three pens ; Goldney Brothers, three pens ; Hill, two pens $ and Studholme, Bealey, Burke, Mcllwraith, and Jenkins, each one pen. A pen of three ram lambs and one ewe lamb were purchased for Mrs. O'Connell, for the sum of £8 Bs. per head. The twelve rams sold singly fetched £279, and were secured by Messrs. Clough & Co., Trolove, Harman, Studholme Brothers, Crekye, F. D. Eich, Wilkin, and Mrs. O'Connell. Several ewe lambs were sold in addition to the lots above mentioned, and realised average prices. The average price for yearling ewes by the Spanish merino ram above alluded to as going with the unsold flock to Otago, was £21. Mr. F. D. Eich takes the German brand with his flock to Moeraki, Qtago.—Lyttelton Times, Nov. 6. — _ _
