Commercial Intelligence.
The heavy rains which have latterly prevailed, and th« consequent flooded state of the country, have to a,greaiF extent stopped communication with the interior, and nave tended greatly to restrict business transactions. Dulness of trade is the universal complaint. Arrivals of merchandise have been nil during the week, but a vessel to the consignment of Mr. Begg, with coals and. merchandise, is hourly expected from Sydney j and several of our Auckland traders may now be considered over-due. An unusually long time has elapsed since any arrival from the capital— owing doubtless to the boisterous weather of the past few weeks ; and, in the absenoa of importations, stocks of firewood and sawn timber aragetting low. The same may be said of horse fodder, which is rendered scarce by the prolonged absence of our Wairoa and Poverty Bay coasters.
