Open Column.

To the Editor of the JLavoikis Bay Serald. Sib, — As the next sitting of the General Assembly will be one of vital importance to this province, and as a very strong opposition may be expected — strong, botb!in numbers and talent, it behoves us to weigh, well how we are represented in that Assembly, and whether the gentleman who ia our Representative is fitted for the task before him. I think it must be admitted by all, that it will require to conduct our case, a gentleman gifted with more than ordinary ability and with a persuasive power of expressing himself, in both which qualifications our present member is deficient ; and ha is also quite unacquainted with the many details, statistical and political, which persons who hava watched affairs during our connection with Wellington, are cognisant of. Moreover, our present member was never put in the position he now holds by a single elector of this province ; he got in by a fluke ; his election was illegal, and I am quite sure that he doe 3 not represent a moiety of his constituents. If the honorable member has not sufficient acumen to see the position in which he stands, and to place his seat in the hands of his constituents, he will sacrifice the best interests of the province, to his personal ambition and self-conceit, unlesa some of his constituents stand boldly forth, and request him to pursue that course which his own good sense should tell him is the only honorable one open to him. Yours very truly, VATBB.
